Dan Sampayo

Brighton based DJ and producer Dan Sampayo is not exactly a stranger to the decks. He got his first set of decks at 13 and has been DJing in pub and clubs in Brighton, London and the south-east UK area since he was 14. Throughout his time DJing and co-promoting nights he has DJ'd alongside acts as diverse as Kate Nash, Aquasky & The Ragga Twins, Lo-Fidelity Allstars, Kenny Ken, Nicky Blackmarket, JFB, Beardyman, Anne Savage, Jon '00' Fleming, Friction, Luke Neville and Graham Gold. He has been fortunate to play many top venues in the London / Brighton / South-East UK area such as Ministry Of Sound, Turnmills, Audio, The Escape Club & The Concorde 2. He also has remixed tracks for Reticent Recordings, Pearlicka Records and The Remix Label.

Dan was brought up on a diet of electro, disco, soul and new wave. He also was provided a weekly cache of rave mix-tapes. It was inevitable that he would love house and techno! After stumbling on Radio 1's Essential Mix and Pete Tong's Friday night Essential Selection at the age of 11 he listened every week astounded by the likes of Paul Oakenfold, Sasha & John Digweed and knew he wanted part of this music. He saved for his first pair of belt drive decks and by 14 had his first gig and residency.

Dan continued to DJ in venues around Brighton and by chance managed to play at The Ministry of Sound early on (obviously lying about his age then). It was at this point he was hooked, and managed to obtain local residencies at different venues on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. When he wasn't playing he was dancing on the other side of the booth and guesting in places such as The Honey Club, The Escape Club, Brixton Academy and Concorde 2 to name a few.

When he was 18 he met and joined the Dysfunktional Sound System and joined them as resident and helped promote nights at their club 3TO when it was built. From 18 to 24 he co-promoted nights house, trance, techno and drum & bass nights such as Minimelt Worthing, DysfuNKtional Unleashed, Disco:very, FCSM, Switch, Urban Knights and many more. Most of these nights featured as best nights on the South Coast in DJ Magazine, and Urban Knights was nominated for a Knowledge magazine award.

Sadly all good this come to an end and 3TO club closed in 2004. Dan continued to DJ as resident for various club nights such as Cable Club and The Electric Playboys club, whilst also guesting at various places. He also managed to do a few festivals such as Frequency Festival and The Great Escape Festival.

In 2007 he won a DJ competition run by Reticent Recordings and Paul Van Dyk's Vonyc outlet. This was followed in 2008 by a release for Pearlicka Records, this time remixing Sean Pemberton's "Freitag Deluxe". From this he had a release on Reticent Recordings in 2009 which was his remix of Oppanox - "Dum Dee Doo".

In 2015 Dan was fortunate to DJ alonside Arther Shillin' b2b at The Bugged Out Weekender but then the gigs had to take a back seat while he recovered from a broken foot - oops!

2016 has seen Dan Sampayo lined up to play the awesome Super Hoof event on 12th March alongside Kutsch. He is working on some tunes which will hopefully be unleashed soon.

He has also started his residency for Saturo Sounds every Tuesday evening called The Eclectic Selective which features top guest mixes and live mixes from himself. Tune in every Tuesday from 7pm to 10pm GMT!
